INNOVATIVE DIVORCE SOLUTIONS - Helping Families in Transition Find Solutions Outside of Court
Divorce mediation is a process that helps couples work together to resolve all of the issues involved in their separation or divorce. Such issues may include division of assets (such as real estate, investment accounts, and retirement benefits), allocation of debts, child and/or spousal support (alimony) and parenting arrangements.
The purpose of mediation is to help couples effectively communicate and negotiate. In mediation, couples can explore alternative ways of resolving disagreements. They can deal with anger, sadness and other emotions common to separation and divorce.
Participation in mediation is voluntary. It is informal, but conducted in a safe and structured setting. Mediation is a lot less stressful than adversarial, win-lose, court-based proceedings. Discussions in mediation are confidential. What the couple talks about cannot be brought up later in court or anywhere else.

Family and divorce mediation is not a substitute for independent legal advice. We strongly recommend that each spouse consult with an attorney at some point during the mediation process.
